You’re So Vain – Carly Simon

max-hallThis weekend was rivalry week in college football. That means where I live, Utah played BYU to a sudden death overtime. A good, not great game. But a really exciting finish in the first overtime when BYU wins by a final score of 26-23.

And so it goes.

As a Ute fan, I was disappointed. But it was sudden death. The best overtime system in sports. And either team could have won the game.

What makes this victory so delicious for Utah fans is Max Hall’s complete and utter vanity and stupidity in the post-game press conference.

A few highlights:
“I don’t like Utah. In fact, I hate them. I hate everything about them. I hate their program, their fans. I hate everything. It felt really good to send those guys home.”

“They didn’t deserve it. It was our turn, and our turn to win. We deserved it. We played as hard as we could tonight. And it felt really good, again, to send them home, to get them out of here, and so it is a game I will always remember.”

“I think the whole university and their fans and the organization is classless. They threw beer on my family and stuff last year and did a whole bunch of nasty things. I don’t respect them and they deserved to lose.”

Max Hall, you are a fool. One could even say a “classless fool.”

But your comments reminded me of some great songs that could work as your theme song as you continue your narcissistic path through life. Perhaps you may even ”like” a few of these.

“You’re So Vain” by Carly Simon that features the lyrics:

You walked into the party
Like you were walking onto a yacht
Your hat strategically dipped below one eye
Your scarf it was apricot
You had one eye in the mirror
As you watched yourself gavotte
And all the girls dreamed that they’d be your partner
They’d be your partner, and

CHORUS

You’re so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You’re so vain
I’ll bet you think this song is about you
Don’t you? Don’t you?

“Don’t Care” by Klark Kent

(which is really The Police behind masks, yes Sting, Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland. True story)

I am the hottest thing you ever will see
You know I’m something it ain’t easy to ee
I am the neatest thing that ever hit town
There isn’t anything that could bring me down

CHORUS

Don’t care
If you really wanna hang around
Don’t care
‘Cause I am the neatest thing in town
Don’t care
If you really wanna stick around
I don’t care

Max, your vanity, ego and stupidity are impressive. You make it easy to be a proud and “classless” Utah man.

Max Hall Hates Everything

You’re even a hit on YouTube now Max. Nice work. I simply typed ”Max Hall classless” in the search box and this video popped up. Funny. I have a hunch your (poor) reputation is now cemented in Utah/BYU lore.
