Everything I Own – Bread

Editor’s note: Bread is not a one-hit wonder. Sometimes I write about songs, because, well, those songs are on my mind. Like “Everything I Own” by Bread.

Typos are an embarrassing little thing. Sure they’re not the end of the world. But they should be avoided at all costs. Especially in a new business pitch.

I participated in crafting a funny one last week. Different members of my company put together an 80-slide overview of our company and I did a final edit before we projected it on the big screen. I fixed formatting, typos, consistent use of language. Typical stuff. But I happened to miss the phrase “Best of Bread Technology.”

So did the spell-check tool.

“Best of Breed Technology” is an all-too common tech cliché that means little, is used far too often and essentially says your technology is the latest and greatest.

The Best of Bread” is a five-times-platinum greatest hits album by 1970s soft rockers, Bread.

My company apparently offers “Best of Bread Technology.” And we’re awfully proud. So proud, our CEO played a two-minute tribute to our “Best of Bread Technology” this morning. The hit song we enjoyed was “Everything I Own,” a top-five Billboard chart hit from 1972 that can be found on their classic album Baby I’m-A Want You.

Needless to say, “Everything I Own” has run through my brain continuously all day. So I’ve posted the song for your enjoyment. Plus a link to the “Best Of Bread.”

Soft rock doesn’t get much better than Bread. With ten top-20 Billboard singles in the 1970s, they cornered the market with best-of-breed ballads.
