Baby Got Back – Richard Cheese

richard-cheeseAs a joke, a friend recently sent me an email with the subject line: “Want a sexy butt?”

Sexy butt? Count me in.

I opened the email and learned about product called “Butt Lift in a Box.” True story. A “butt lift in a box.”

Who thinks of these things?

Here’s their promise:
“The amazing Butt-Lifting Kit is a revolutionary 3-part system that not only helps reduce the appearance of cellulite, but also makes your bottom look smooth, tight and ‘lifted’… as it restores a youthful-looking, head-turning roundness to even the saggiest of rear ends. Butt Lift In A Box is designed to plump up the look of flatter, saggier buns. Bremenn’s specially designed, ‘butt-specific’ Butt Lifting Kit will help you tighten that tush, lift that derrière, bolster that backside, and create killer curves.”

All for only $99.

I’ve got two things on my mind

1. I’m glad they pointed out that the Butt Lifting Kit is “butt-specific.” There was a good chance I was going to use it on my face or to lift my car next time I need to change the oil. I won’t make that mistake now!
2. “Baby Got Back” by Sir Mix A Lot

Baby Got Back

You remember “Baby Got Back” from 1992. It’s a classic rump shaker that topped the Billboard charts for five weeks. It gets old quickly but is enjoyable in small doses.

“Baby Got Back” popped in my head as I read the butt lifting email. But not the version you might expect. No, the version bouncing around my brain is “Baby Got Backicon” by Richard Cheese. It’s a lounge version that’s big with young hipsters and older kids (much older, say 75+ years old). You can find it on The Sunny Side of the Moon: The Best of Richard Cheeseicon. It’s a must-have collection that includes lounge versions of hits like “Bust a Move” by Young MC, “Hot for Teacher” by Van Halen and “Gin and Juice” by Snoop Dogg.

In my opinion, Cheese’s version delivers way more bounce to the ounce than Mix A Lots’. But you be the judge.

Swing to the sweet sounds of “Baby Got Back” by Richard Cheese:

I wish I’d never listened to that version of “Baby Got Back”- it’s stuck in my head and I can’t get it out! haha.

I totally adore Richard Cheese. His cover of Suicidal Tendencies’ Institutionalized still makes me laugh. In fact, I’m a sucker for all these kind of weird novelty re-imaginings of songs (especially rap songs). Ben Folds has one of my all-time–profoundly profanity-laced–fave covers of Dr. Dre/Snoop Dogg:

    Also…

Sir Mix a Lot + Burger King + Spongebob = WTF?

And another odd Sir-Mix-fast-food homage (but extolling the virtues of the “non-ghetto booty”):

    Mik,

I love the Ben Folds cover of the Dre song. The guitar chorus at the end is magical and you wonder if the audience is fully in on the joke or suprised by Ben’s dramatic exit. Great song.

I’ve never understood the Mix a Lot/Burger King promo. Simply strange.
